Imperfections and Modelling of the Weld Bead Profile of Laser Butt Joints in HSLA Steel Thin Plate

In many applications that use high strength steels, structural integrity depends greatly on weld quality. Imperfections and the bead geometry are influencing factors mechanical properties of welded joints but, especially in fatigue strength, they cause a great decrease. The proper knowledge these two is important from nominal stress approach to fracture mechanics approaches. Studies concerning profile imperfections laser welding for thin plates steels scarce. this work, aspects covered five series single double-welded joints, butt 3 mm thick HSLA steel, small range parameters. actual profiles captured with profilometer were modeled proposed geometric parameters achieving an adequate fit values coefficient determination ℜ2 greater than 0.9000. Description includes distributions porosity undercuts. evaluation quality, taking as guide ISO 13919-1 standard determined B D levels while based stress-concentrating effect, showed detriment those undercuts excessive penetration. analysis variance validated results different combinations showed, factorial experimental design, more significant effect speed.
